Motion to approve the May minutes made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.

Additions to the Agenda:
1.      request for additional tennis court(s)
2.      Karen Volfson’s request for use of the gym for a fundraiser

New Business:
A. Chad Winkle, Evendale Swim Team Coach
·       Chad was an assistant coach with Sharonville for five years; still coaching with the Cincinnati Marlins and Roger Bacon High School.
·       He is enjoying his first year as Evendale’s head coach.
·       Practices are going well. Thursday’s Apples vs Bananas meet was a tie, followed by a win against Greenhills on Tuesday. Evendale vs. Reading takes place tonight.
B. Lisa Toney, Monica Mazzone, and Jackie Beck, Evendale Tennis Team Members
·       There are forty-five women on this year’s tennis team. Because of only four courts, the number of players makes it very difficult to play matches on Friday morning. The twice a week practices are very crowded.
·       We are currently using court time at Carpenter’s Creek club house courts; but the ladies expect Carpenter’s Creek residents to grow tired of this arrangement.
·       They request the department look into adding courts; preferably two. One additional court would allow us to play at the USTA level.
·       Tennis outdoors can be played ten months a year in Cincinnati.
·       In 2000 there were twelve women on the team, today there are forty-five with another eight to ten new players expecting to play next season. Our youth program continues to grow, another factor for more courts.
·       Commission will add this issue to their August agenda.
C. Karen Volfson’s request for use of the north gym for a fundraiser
·       Commission would like the group to obtain a liquor license from the state, and have the group’s insurance company list the village as additional insured. Since Karen’s group is located in Sharonville, commission also requests Karen contact Sharonville Recreation about their room availability.
·       If these requirements are met, commission agrees to allow the group the use of the gym.
·       Commission also recommends the policy committee look at revising the policy so these rental decisions are left to the director and department staff.

Old Business:
Tri-Health Report – as noted in the commission packets

Director’s Report
·       Trail pamphlet continues to be worked on. James Jeffers is getting Dave a copy of Village roadways without property markings. Dave hopes to have the pamphlet completed by Labor Day.
·       Playground will be done by July 4th.
·       Cary Belyea distributes a newsletter to the lifeguards; Dave presented a copy to commission.
·       Budget Sub-Committee will be Dave Nichols, Mary Lou Isaac, Wayne Mosley, Gus Janszen, and Grace Ficke. Dave will email the preliminary department budget to them before their meeting on August 21st.
·       Shelter House rental lead time issue will be added to the August agenda.

Phi Lambda Pi Report:
·       Concession stand is open for the summer.
·       Activities have included volunteering at Griffin Park clearing trails, planting flowers at the pool, a scavenger hunt, dodgeball and bunko.

Open Discussion:
·       Stiney apologized for missing the last two meetings; he was in Washington D.C. on both dates.
·       Stiney thanked the department for their assistance after his mother’s passing.
·       Michele emailed Dave telling him that Missy’s “Introduction to Diving” class is going well.
·       Attendance at the “open” adult soccer program is back up.
·       This year’s fireworks display will be shot from soccer field #3. This is a safety issue due to the size of shells being used.

Motion to adjourn made at 8:37am by Gus Janszen; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion approved.
